About Us (BudgIT Ghana)
BudgIT Ghana is a civic, nonprofit organisation dedicated to enhancing citizens' understanding of public spending and promoting transparency and accountability in governance. Founded in 2020, BudgIT Ghana has quickly become a pioneer in social advocacy, leveraging technology to simplify complex government data. Through innovative tech tools, creative visual intelligence methods, infographics, online interfaces, interactive applications, and grassroots sensitisation, BudgIT Ghana delivers clear and accessible information about government activities to the public. Our work focuses on fiscal analysis, civic technology, election transparency and data representation, health advocacy, extractives, and education, ensuring citizens have the necessary information to demand accountability and promote institutional improvement.
We are committed to fostering a community of active citizens who use public information to demand efficient service delivery and a more equitable society. Additionally, our collaboration with the Ghana Integrity Initiative, the local chapter of Transparency International, the Civil Society Organizations Budget Forum, Parliamentary Network Africa, and as Parliamentary Committee Members on Open Governance and Fiscal Transparency provides us with collective leverage in promoting transparency, at all levels and facets of government, including elections. After a recent release of infographic data sets on the Gender nexus in Ghana's political landscape, we have established our impact and commitment to transparency and equity efforts that ensure that election processes are open, fair, and accountable.
As an active Coalition of Domestic Elections Observers (CODEO) member, BudgIT Ghana plays a significant role in election monitoring and reporting. Our recent involvement in the District Elections last December provided valuable field experience and insights into grassroots election dynamics. Our expertise in data visualisation ensures that election results are reported and shared in a format that citizens and stakeholders easily understand. This, combined with our technological prowess and commitment to transparency, positions BudgIT Ghana as a strong player in the election landscape, capable of handling all processes that ensure transparent elections.
About Us (Civic Hive)
Founded in 2017, Civic Hive is an innovation hub. It opened as an innovative space to raise and build civic-tech leaders and creative changemakers. It also strengthened civil society organisations' reach by improving their ability to use data, design, and innovation to articulate their advocacy campaigns. In addition, it established an incubation and acceleration process that equips them with the right tools to deliver outstanding results and impact across Africa.
In the last five years, 34 Civic Hive fellows have built critical civic products that solve social problems at all levels of society. Three of these projects—Gavel, Amplify, and Flemer Project—have built stronger partnerships with global organisations and continue to reference the quality of the Civic Hive training as crucial to achieving their goals. We have also seen tremendous progress in fellows such as GenderMobile, PolicyShapers, JusticePadi, and Urban Alert.
Our work promoting participatory governance and democracy birthed our LiveResult tools, which became Nigeria's go-to web app for monitoring real-time election data and visualisation. It has been replicated in other African countries and has garnered over four million unique users.
As part of our commitment to bringing more young people into civic life, we have supported 16 creative change-makers across Nigeria. From short films and games to different visual and auditory art forms, we have funded these creative projects for those using their skills to promote advocacy for social change and solutions.
